D. James Heatherington, Supervisor

Mr. Heatherington founded the D. James Heatherington Funeral Home in McKeesport in 1962 and was owner and operator until 2003. He currently is the supervisor of the Hunter-Edmundson-Striffler, Co. Funeral Home, an affiliate of Striffler Family Funeral Homes. Mr. Heatherington attended the University of Pittsburgh and is a graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. He is the chair of UPMC McKeesport and a member of its board of directors; a member of the McKeesport Hospital Foundation board of directors; a member of the board of directors of Shenango Presbyterian Senior Housing, Inc.; and a consultant to TransCare, a Pittsburgh for-profit ambulance service. His memberships include the Penn State McKeesport advisory board, the Mon-Yough Chamber of Commerce, the Pittsburgh Care Partnership board, and the McKeesport Healthier Communities Partnership. Mr. Heatherington is a member of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) board of directors and its committees on community health, insurance services division and physician services division.

A member of the Westmoreland County Fireman's Association, Mr. Heatherington is assistant fire chief of the Rillton Volunteer Fire Department of Sewickley Township. He is a member of the McKeesport Knights of Columbus, Council 955, and various antique automobile clubs, both regional and national.

Mr. Heatherington is former deputy coroner of Allegheny County; former two-term member of the McKeesport City Council, having served as the first president of Council (in 1976) under the city's new Home Rule Charter; former secretary/treasurer of the McKeesport Redevelopment Authority; and former member of the board of trustees of the Carnegie Library of McKeesport. He is the recipient of the 1992 Mon-Yough Chamber of Commerce Small Business Owner of the Year award and the 1995 Community Service Award. He holds honorable discharges from the United States Army and the Pennsylvania National Guard.
