Obituary of Harvey Wander

Harvey Wander, age 94, of White Oak, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018.  He was born January 10, 1924 in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, son of the late Morris and Minnie Mermelstein Wander. 

A well-known figure in Pittsburgh, he was an entrepreneur and business owner.  He managed the first rock & roll club in Pittsburgh.  He subsequently established Harvey’s House on Federal Street and later formed the Harvey Wander Agency, a bail bond business. 

He was a member of the Pleasant Hills-Guthrie Lodge #509 F&AM.  He was also a member of Scottish Rite where he received his 32^nd degree.  He was also dedicated and active in the Shrine as well. 

A sports enthusiast, he coached amateur basketball in White Oak and was a Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holder for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years, Irene Rudick Wander; son, Jeffrey (Lisa) Wander of Cuyutlan, Mexico; daughter, Elyse Wander of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Joshua, Meghan, Layne; great-grandchildren, Calina, Zoe and Scarlett.

Family and friends will gather Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Strifflers of White Oak Cremation and Mortuary Services, Inc., 1100 Lincoln Way, White Oak, PA  15131 (Sue Striffler Galaski, Supervisor, 412-678-6177). from noon until the time of service at 1:00 pm with Rabbi Paul Tuchman officiating.  Burial will follow at Temple Cemetery.
